IECEx Approved Products
What Are IEC Approved Products?
Our IECEx certified products (level switch, level transmitter, etc.) have been approved by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for use in Ex (hazardous) areas. Hazardous Areas and locations are extremely harsh environments that are not suitable for most electronic devices such as level indicators. Hazardous areas may include locations where flammable liquids, vapours, gases or combustible dusts build up to an extent where a fire or explosion may occur. In modern industries such as oil refinieries, sewerage treatment plants, underground mining and many others, there are likely to be many hazardous areas where run-of-the-mill level indicators or industrial displays may not be sufficient, and an IECEx approved model is required.
To receive IECEx certification samples of the product must be sent to the IEC for strenuous testing in hazardous areas and environments, which in itself is extremely rigorous. However, the IEC is extemely thorough and also inspects your place of manufacture, and continually drops in for inspections to ensure that any IECEx approved product is suitable for your hazardous applications.
