Product Description

The OilSpy is a highly sensitive hydrocarbon detector, developed by Nereides and brought to Australia by Semrad. The OilSpy creates an alarm when a layer of oil of just 0.1mm thick is detected floating on water, making it perfect for detection of oil films in sensitive areas and enabling compliance with EPA regulations.

How does this oil in water detection sensor work?

The OilSpy detects floating hydrocarbons using an extremely sensitive polymer membrane. This membrane is held in tension between an upper moving axis and a fixed lower axis. When in contact with hydrocarbons (oils), the membrane dissolves, releasing the upper moving axis, activating a relay in the OilSpy, triggering an alarm. This alarm is transmitted by electric cable or radio to either the OilSpy Alarm Station or to the end users control system.
