Semrad's guided wave radar level sensor is designed for continuous level measurement of conductive or non-conductive liquids, pulps and solids. These sensors are highly versatile, and can be locally programmed thanks to the included SAP-300 local indicator display, eliminating the need to program the sensor with a HART modem. Alternatively, if you have use lots of guided wave radar level sensors, many of our customers forgo the local programmer display and program through their computer, bringing the cost  of ownership down.

These level sensors are perfect for many applications such as measuring fuel levels in fuel storage tanks or water levels in reservoirs. Our guided wave radar level sensors come with complete IEC approval and optionally, an explosion proof housing, making them suitable for just about any hazardous environment or application you can think of.

How The Guided Wave Radar Works;

The guided wave radar level sensor operates on the well known TDR (time domain reflectometry) principle. Micropulses are sent along a probe guide at the speed of light. As soon as the pulse reaches the surface of the medium is it reflected back to the electronic module in the level sensor. Level distance is directly proportional to the flight time of the pulse. The reflected signal is dependent on the dielectric constant of the material, the feasibility of the measurement is εr > 1,4. The TDR technology is unaffected by the properties of the medium as well as that of the space above it. Measurement is also unaffected by the change in the physical properties of the materials such as temperature, pressure, dielectric constant.
