Microtrek
Guided Microwave level transmitter
General
The Microtrek level gauge operates on the well known TDR (Time domain Reflectometry) which is commonly used as test system for underground cables i.e. if there is an open circuit or a leakage to ground the TDR technology will pin point the location of the failed cable. This technology has been enhanced to measure the level of Bulk solids and Liquids in vessels, bins and silos.
This two-wire level transmitter sends Micropulses along a cable or rod at the velocity of light. As soon as the pulse reaches the product surface, it reflects back to the electronics. Since the velocity of light is constant in Air or Gases, the Microtrek does not require any calibration or maintenance. Distance is directly proportional to the Time of Flight of the pulse divided by 2.
Application
The Microtrek can be used to measure liquids and bulk solids in Steel/Fiberglass Vessels, Bins and Silos. The simple installation and the 2 wire electrical connection make the Microtrek one of the most popular level instruments on the market. Used on liquids and bulksolids the Microtrek can measure the level of very fine Oils, Aggressive Chemicals, Acids, Polymers, Alumina, Cement, Flyash, and Grain with far superior results over Ultrasonics and Non Contact Radar. With HART communications as standard on the 4-20ma output the Microtrek is a very versatile level transmitter.
